Woven Mesh

Woven wire meshes each have different properties that make them suitable for specific tasks. There are many types of woven wire mesh each characterized by different porosity ranges, combinations of opening sizes, and % open area. With over 70 years of wire mesh expertise, we have a broad range of woven wire cloth in inventory, with 5,000 different types of woven wire mesh in stock from multiple stocking warehouses worldwide; 3,000 to 4,000 types are available to cut to size for same-day shipping.

Square / Plain weave has its origins in braiding. With this weave, the material is interwoven. Each warp wire and each shute wire pass over one and under the next adjacent wire. Wires are crimped in the weaving operation. There are a number of ways of doing this, making the family of plain weaves extremely diverse with respect to appearance and structure.

There are a number of types of plain mesh characterized by different porosity ranges, combinations of opening sizes, and % open area; these include market grade wire mesh, tensile bolting cloth (also known as square mesh bolting cloth), and mill grade. Each has different properties that make them suitable for specific tasks.

Pre-crimping wire enables the mesh to lock together, creating a tight weave with good rigidity and pleasing aesthetics. It is used extensively in architectural applications, as infill panels, cages and decoration. It is also used in acoustics, filtration, bridge guards, aerospace parts, rodent control, and truck grills.

Acoustic mesh is a particular type of wire mesh used to achieve precise sound attenuation or noise suppression objectives used in aerospace (typically nacelles and thrust reversers in jet engines) and consumer electronic noise reduction applications. It is woven to a precise Rayl value, which is a measure of acoustic impedance or airflow resistance.

Micronic Mesh (often called micron mesh) is typically used for liquid filtration applications due to the extremely small openings (measured in microns) in the weave and can have greater strength and durability vs. square weave wire mesh.

There are 2 main types of weave – Dutch and Twilled Dutch. Micron retention size, i.e., what the mesh is intended to trap, is the primary parameter needed to determine the correct weave and size. Rhodius is a manufacturer of micron wire mesh offering the most common weaves in ratings from 15 to 200 microns, with 100 microns being the most common, although we also make micron wire mesh to less than 10 microns for filtration OEMs.
